The Denan Project’s health center in Uratari, Peru first opened its doors on October 20, 2010 with building and construction still in progress. Thanks to the extraordinary determination and all-volunteer construction labor from the residents of Uratari and surrounding villages, the Health Center was officially unveiled, in its completed state, on April 16, 2011. The Center consists of examination and treatment rooms, a maternity ward, a doctor’s office, a fully equipped dental facility, a laboratory, a pharmacy, an in-patient facility, and housing for key personnel. The Center is staffed by a doctor, a nurse-midwife, a nurse, a lab technician who doubles as a pharmacist, and a cleaner. In addition, for two consecutive days each month an OBGYN specialist and a dentist are in attendance. The staff is fluent in Quechua, the local language spoken by the descendants of the ancient Incans.
